Kansas - Device Voice Drum (2002) DVD9 PAL Untouched

2002 played the progressive rock legend Kansas with her returning founding member, vocalist and keyboardist Steve Walsh, however, without their guitarist and main songwriter Kerry Livgren, the live double album Device - Voice - Drum A, which - as the title suggests - appears on DVD. At the picture and sound quality of DVD and owners of high-value assets will have their joy. Your menu is somewhat reminiscent of the aesthetics of the film Tron, and it contains in addition to the live concert even interviews with the musicians, a somewhat strange computer animation with a music-making machine (it is supposed to represent a metaphor for the band?) And a discography.

The setlist is a mix of old hits like "Carry On Wayward Son", "Song For America" ??or for the band's sound untypical Edelkitsch ballad "Dust In The Wind" and lesser-known songs from the newer albums. The sound quality of the DVD is quality for the complex rock sound of the band just made - the band would have been standing in front of a quarter of a century's technology available today, they would again sounded so good.

Who is, however, no long-time Kansas fan, experienced mixed feelings: on the one hand, the complex songs and the virtuosity of the musicians are still impressive - not to mention the memories of the past, causing the already somewhat aged songs. On the other hand heard the sound of Kansas, so alive and engaged the band also presents him their fans, now a museum. After all, the last notable album of Kansas appeared in the early '80s, when bands like Asia, Saga or Journey had their heydays. Younger bands like Dream Theater or Spock's Beard missed the progressive rock in the meantime, a much more modern appearance. However fill bands like the Rolling Stones, whose back are great times much longer, so now even the football stadiums, and the similar nature Yes celebrate the new millennium also its resurrection. Why not as well as Kansas?
