es war etwas still geworden um guten death metal in deutschland. dieses album jedoch beweisst, dass gegenteil. knallharte killersongs von purer verwuestung und nicht den hauch von barmherzigkeit. es macht spass die scheibe auf und ab zu hören. ein favorit, soviel kann ich euch versprechen.wist and turn with the blasting rhythm of “The Enigma of Fate” and “The Calling,” climaxing with the heart of the album: “The Ascension Part 1” and “The Ascension Part 2.” "Part 1" is the heir-apparent to any track from Carcass's classic Heartwork album. It features an awesome guitar attack and the song has an evil, almost sarcastic tone. "Part 2" is a monumental instrumental piece, beginning with acoustic guitars and ending in a triumphant score familiar with the black metal elite. This is the soundtrack to bloody, fiery battlefields and legions of armor-clad warriors fighting to the death. The title track churns out some of the release's best grooves and has lyrics telling tales of death and destruction. Trust me, the rest of the album follows suit. “Immaculate Perception” closes out in instrumental fashion with beautiful acoustic guitar work.

Martriden is furious yet beautiful, extreme yet dynamic, and The Unsettling Dark is a phenomenal album. Above all, they have a sense of purpose, unlike the droves of bands we are seeing today making incomprehensible noise. They have set a high bar for themselves with their first full-length album and are already on the same level as many long running black and death metal bands. For fans of extreme metal, this is one not to be missed.record, lazily titled 'Magnum 2' and produced by TEN YEARS AFTER bassist Leo Lyons, consolidated their early achievements and again saw the band supporting name artists across Britain. This time BLUE OYSTER CULT, in November, and KROKUS took the Birmingham outfit out on the road and a dual headliner with TYGERS OF PAN TANG also took place.

Easily at their best in a live situation, MAGNUM chose to record a live album for their third album. 'Marauder', produced by Lyons once again, appeared in 1980. A live 'Marauder' EP also appeared, containing tracks not available on the album But as MAGNUM's status grew so did band tensions within the group and Richard Bailey departed, teaming up with TRAPEZE and ALASKA and made room for Grenville Harding. However, shortly after a tour of Britain with DEF LEPPARD in April 1980 Harding was asked to leave and in came former RAINMAKER and LITTLE ACRE keyboard player Mark Stanway.

It was under the auspices of producer Jeff Glixman that the band's next studio album, 'Chase The Dragon, was recorded. This record really pushed the band to the fore and as it charted the band increased the live work, even heading off to support fellow Jet artist OZZY OSBOURNE in America.

However, the band's last album for Jet, 'The Eleventh Hour', did not give MAGNUM the hit they needed and label and band parted ways after it's release. Still, once again MAGNUM toured Britain, this time with an additional guest guitarist in ROBIN GEORGE.

During 1982 with MAGNUM inactive Gorin toured as drummer for TRAPEZE. 1983 proved a period of confusion for the band as Stanway announced he was working with THIN LIZZY's PHIL LYNOTT (following rumours he had joined WHITESNAKE) prompting rumours of MAGNUM's demise persisted.
