HinweiseGenre : Sleaze Rock
Country : USA
Year : 2007
Dirty Penny hails from the US and they are one of the few bands that try to re-conquer the sleaze throne, which once belonged to L.A. sunset strip bands. Now cold and snowy Sweden has the best sleaze scene. Dirty Penny isn't straight off the Strip but based in Santa Cruz California.
The band proclaims "Take it Sleezy" should be the follow up to CrashDïet "Rest in sleaze" and judged by the first song Midnight Ride, the beefed up backing vocals sounds exactly like CrashDïet.
Dirty Penny tries so hard to make their songs catchy that several come off simple and primitive. There is a fine line between catchy and primitive. Often the chorus is just one line repeated. The worn out title Hot and Heavy sounds like something from the 70´s and the chorus is very primitive. Overall the music needs more aspects.
Dirty Penny shows potential on Push Comes To Shove, which is straight to the bone sleaze Rock. The highlight is Sleeze Disease. Since Dirty Penny is capable of writing such a great tune it leaves hope for a bright future. The chord progression is superb and this certainly is the right path for Dirty Penny to follow. The album ends with an acoustic version of Sleeze Disease with strings, which works well.
Singer Binge Daniels has a good voice for this genre. On Take A Bite he sounds like Bon Scott. Guitarist Jonny Prynce plays a great riff on Vendetta and basically the musicians are skilled. All Dirty Penny needs to work on is the song writing.
