Main characters behind this project band are vocalist/ guitarist/ bassist Christer Andresen and keyboardist/ additional vocalist Arild Aardalen , and in the words of Aardalen himself: “Even though me and Chris both have a disturbingly varied collection of vinyls and CD's, we always were a couple of Metal-heads growing up. After far too many years, and after our musical paths had crossed on far too many occasions, we finally decided we should make our own Metal record. About frigin' time!”.

The process of making Heaven's Gate was finished early Fall 2006, after 5 weeks of pre-production (and with the additional help of guesting Jörn Holen on all drums; Maja Svisdahl , Mats Rybö , and H-Man on vocals – the latter Spoken Words; plus Gunhild Mathea Olaussen on violin), recording, and mixing. Again in the words of Aardalen : “...Along the way Keldian evolved into a blend of Metal flavoured by both modern and more traditional Metal styles. Our debut album is an epic sci-fi journey exploring the hopes, fears, and future of mankind. I hope you enjoy the ride...”!

Which is something I certainly did! And now comes the contradiction, because the label describes the album as being “a very impressive AOR style...”! The truth is somewhere in between, because there's certainly elements of both Metal and Hard Rock entwined into these 10 deliciously melodic songs. As influences, the “band” brings Iron Maiden , John Wetton , Paradise Lost , and Luca Turilli to the table, while the label claims the album is certainly something for fans of Europe , Giant , and/or Asia ...which is something I see too! Probably the band has incorporated a bit more Hard Rock influences than they intended to, but the overall result ís there: a great keyboard-supported melodic and Heavy Hard Rock, incorporating all of the above at one moment or another, some at the same time.

In other words, a darn good album! In fact, the most interesting one I've heard from the Perris label so far. In case you're interested, this marks the first singing for Perris of a Norwegian band...and I would say they've got a winner here! Now let's hope the “band” can give the album a bit of promotion by taking the album on the road or, in case of being impossible to do this, that we can expect to see a follow-up somewhere in the future! Great album, and a dead-certain addition to that “Best (AOR) Albums Of 2007”-list of mine!
