A No-frills Hard Rock band originally formed by Danish frontman Henrik Ostergaard in the San Francisco before deciding to relocate to Pennsylvania after meeting bassist Jack Pyers and deciding to start DIRTY LOOKS from scratch once more. Finding drummer Gene Barnett in Baltimore and guitarist Paul Lidel in Rochester the band released their first mini-album in 1983. This was followed by an album before being picked up by the French Axe Killer label, touring the East Coast following the release of their 'In Your Face' album in 1985.

Atlantic Records picked up on the quartet following a piece on Mirror Records, a small-time independent label who had released 'In Your Face' in America, and bought out their contract, paying an estimated $50,000 in compensation. Signing to Atlantic, Max Norman was engaged to produce 'Cool From The Wire' in 1987, the record featuring re-workings of four songs from the 'In Your Face' album; namely 'Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You', 'Tokyo', 'Put A Spell On You' and 'Oh Ruby'.

Capitalizing on the success of the major label debut, the band quickly followed up with 1988's 'Turn Of The Screw', which eventually proved to find the band at the height of their popularity. They band managed to release a single and shot a video for the song, 'Nobody Rides For Free'. Despite a well-received album with decent sales and some North American touring, the band, suffering from media comparisons to AC/DC, saw their contract with Atlantic not being renewed.

The band regrouped in 1991 with a rarities compilation album called 'Bootlegs' which was released oddly enough on the guitar-based, specialty label, Shrapnel Records. That deal was very short-lived and soon the band relocated to the Rockworld concern in 1992. The 1992 album 'Five Easy Pieces' was produced once again by Max Norman. The album to be the first of four albums on the Rockworld label headed by David Krebs who was actively involved with the band. The four album deal also included some distribution and manufacturing via Sony Music, which helped make the 1990's albums easier to find in an era of Grunge and alternative.

Barnett quit to join LILLIAN AXE. Lidel pulled out and was believed to have worked with LIZZY BORDEN in 1988. He eventually teamed up with DANGEROUS TOYS in 1992, appearing on their 'Pissed' album. The six stringer would later forge 20LB BUZZ then re-unite with DANGEROUS TOYS frontman Jason McMaster to found the bar room Boogie Rock band BROKEN TEETH.

Ostergaard fired up a side band dubbed RUMBLEDOG, the 1993 debut was really just a solo project with Henrik listed as the only member but featured many guest contributors. These guests included Dave Naro, Paul Monroe of XYZ, Robbin Crosby of RATT and four members of DIRTY LOOKS namely, Cary Devore, Jim Harris, Paul Lidel and Brian Perry. The album also featured a couple of reworked tunes from some of the lesser known DIRTY LOOKS albums.

1994 proved to be a busy year for the band with two full length studio albums being released for Rockworld. Max Norman helped mix 'Chewing On The Bit' and later in the year the band relased 'One Bad Leg' before Ostergaard engaged in a second RUMBLEDOG album. Entitled 'The Drowning Pool' it was also on the Mirror Record label and this time was a more cohesive band affair with original material and a five-piece line-up comprising guitarist Mike Ondersek and Mike Smith, bassist Jassen Wilber and drummer Ron Sutton. The music took on a slightly more Grunge-influenced sound.

Much like two years prior, 1996 was an active year for the band, when DIRTY LOOKS released another two full length studio albums in the same year, namely 'Slave to The Machine' followed by 'Rip It Out'. The later album found the band back on their old label Mirror Records featured stalwart Ostergaard on vocals and sharing guitar duties with Paul Lidel.
