A Frankfurt Metal act lyrically obsessed by the subject of alcohol, TANKARD's second album, 'Chemical Invasion', was close to being a crusade against the introduction of foreign chemicals into German beers. The band was created during 1982 with an original line-up of vocalist Gerre, guitarists Axel Katzmann and Andy Boulgaropulas, bassist Frank Torwarth and drummer O.W. (Oliver Werner). This line-up cut the first demo in 1984 'Heavy Metal Vanguard' capitalised on by a second effort 'Alcoholic Metal'. The debut album, 1986's 'Zombie Attack', provided a useful sales base of 10'000 copies before 1987's 'Chemical Invasion' exceeded that figure three times over.

TANKARD's early drummer Oliver Werner was superseded by Arnulf Tunn. Werner went on to created CHASED CRIME and DARK STAR.

In 1988 TANKARD toured Europe heavily playing dates in Germany, Holland and Belgium before performing at festivals in Germany alongside VENDETTA and HELSTAR. The interim 'Alien' EP was promoted in Germany by dates with DEATHROW. The group later recorded 'The Meaning Of Life' album in 1990, their first to enter the German national charts as TANKARD hit the road again, this time with RUMBLE MILITIA and NAPALM in tow. Shows in Bochum and Frankfurt were recorded for the band's debut live album 'Fat, Ugly & Live'.

1992 found TANKARD's popularity extending outside of Germany and the act's touring schedule was widened to include territories such as Turkey and Bulgaria where they played with support acts MEGLOMANIAX and Englishmen XENTRIX.

Following recording of 1994's 'Two Faced' album drummer Arnulf Tunn departed and in his stead came Olaf Zissel. This new line up soon got back into action releasing an album of cover versions 'Angetankt' for a Germany only release in 1994 adopting the moniker TANKWART.

Before the next album Katzmann left the group due to health problems and TANKARD chose not to replace him but remain as a quartet. The group promptly recorded 'The Tankard' as a four-piece.

In 1996 the second TANKARD side project album was released through Century Media. Titled 'Himbeergeist Zum Frühstuck', the group would tour playing material from both this album and TANKARD material.

Katzmann and Tunn would create NEMESIS for an eponymous 1997 album in collusion with frontman Adrian Ergün of CAPRICORN. The millenium saw no let up in TANKARD’s alcohol fuelled activities with the ‘Kings Of Beer’ album, released by Century Media, selling well. December 1999 German shows, running from Christmas Day until New Year's Eve, had the band packaged with SODOM and GODDESS OF DESIRE.

For 2002, the band’s 25th anniversary TANKARD set to work on the aptly titled ‘B-Day’ album for new label AFM Records with HOLY MOSES guitarist Andy Classen acting as producer. Further recordings had the band offering cover versions of MANOWAR's Fast Taker' and METALLICA's 'Damage Inc.' for use on tribute albums.

TANKARD, promoting the 'Beast Of Bourbon' album, united with HATEWORK and IRREVERENCE for a short Italian tour in May of 2004. The band performed an ununusual concert dubbed the '34'000 Ton Metal Cruise' on 25th September, performing onbard the Münchenbryggeriet car ferry in Stockholm, Sweden alongside SKYCLAD, AMON AMARTH, HYPOCRISY, TAD MOROSE, STORMWARRIOR and WOLF.

TANKARD wrapped up another studio album in February 2006, 'The Beauty And The Beer' having been laid down with producer Andy Classen at Stage One studio in Bühne.

The band utilised Stage One studios and producer Andy Classen yet again in April 2007 for a special album project, re-recording brand new versions of tracks from '(Empty) Tankard', 'Chemical Invasion', 'The Morning After' and 'Space Beer' collated as 'Best Case Scenario: 25 Years In Beers' for August issue through AFM Records. Initial versions of this included a bonus disc entitled 'A Tribute To !2007-08-29 06:58:07.000!0͸ÛÍ!2008-11-06 00:45:22.790!0ÍèÛÍ!2007-08-29 00:00:00.000‘!Live-DVD hinzugefügt*Direkt-Download*Trackz*se)*)icht)r*komplett*ugefügt - Info lesen! - Staffel komplett*‘0ͨÜÍ쥎ˆ¨Í9S^š6ìÜÍ0ªÍ wÍè©Íimports)91)Úw)Ï@®Î01ÌId = '!1x²Îÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ:00.ÿÿÿÿ!
