Jimmy P. Brown II (vocals / guitar), Glenn Rogers (guitar), Brian Kharirullah (bass), Chris Hyde (drums)
The highly regarded Los Angeles Christian Thrash Metal outfit DELIVERANCE debuted in 1985 with the ‘Greetings Of Death’ demo tape. An appearance on the important Christian Metal compilation ‘California Metal’ on Regency Records would follow in 1987, DELIVERANCE sharing space by donating ‘Attack’ and ‘A Space Called You’ with MASTEDON, NEON CROSS, GARDIAN, HERO and BARREN CROSS.
In 1989 delivered a Bill Metoyer produced self-titled album. DELIVERANCE comprised of frontman Jimmy P. Brown II on vocals and guitar, guitarist Glenn Rogers, bass player Brian Khairullah and drummer Chris Hyde. Guitarist Glenn Rogers would score co-writing credits on the first VENGEANCE RISING album 'Human Sacrifice'.
A sophomore effort ‘Weapons Of Our Warfare’, generally acknowledged as a genre classic, in 1990. The band would benefit from heavy MTV rotation for the video for the title track. Hyde would take time out to session on the 1991 VENGEANCE RISING rising album ‘Destruction Comes’.
For the ‘Weapons Of Our Warfare' album the group lost guitarist Rogers to HIRAX, replacing him with RECON’s George Ochoa.
The last DELIVERANCE album to deliver Speed Metal would be the 1991 ‘What A Joke’ album. This album witnessed DELIVERANCE hosting an entirely new rhythm section of bassist Mike Grato- another RECON veteran, and drummer Kevin Lee.
The transitional ‘Stay Of Execution’, witnessed guitarist Mike Phillips supplanting Ochoa. The former guitarist would figure as part of the live line up for the notorious Death Metal act VENGEANCE RISING's last 'non-secular' tour.
‘Stay Of Execution’, saw the beginnings of DELIVERANCE’s move into less angst ridden music although the group did put in a sterling performance on the 1993 ‘Intense Live Series Vol. 1’ release, which included a cover version of STRYPER’s ‘Surrender’. Khairullah made a return for this live in the studio recording. Both Jimmy P. Brown and Mike Phillips would also feature as guests on the Rap Thrash project album 'Sodom & America' by XL AND DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR.
Predictably the band switched members once again for the ‘Learn’ album. With only Brown remaining from the original line-up, DELIVERANCE now included guitarist Jon Maddux, bass player Manny Morales and drummer Jon Knox.
Much to the shock of many of their fans DELIVERANCE, now as a trio with new drummer Jeff Mason of BETRAYAL onboard and Brown handling all guitars, drifted into Alternative Rock territory with the 1994 ‘River Disturbance’ album. Earlier Brown had lent guest vocals to two tracks on BETRAYAL’s ‘The Passing’ album. The compilation, ‘A Decade Of Deliverance’, would include a cover version of BLACK SABBATH’s ‘After Forever’.
The harder edged ‘Camelot In Smithereens’ arrived in 1995. Both Morales and Mason were retained for this record with BETRAYAL guitarist Marcus Colon putting in a guest session.
Brown would eventually disband DELIVERANCE to found a fresh act FEARFUL SYMMETRY. Brown would put in a guest session with the Christian apocalyptic Progressive act SAVIOUR MACHINE. However, demand for DELIVERANCE remained high, Magdalene Records issuing archive and demo material in 2000. Brown would resurrect the band for a 2001 album ‘Assimilation’ for Dream Recordings. The new look DELIVERANCE had Brown heading a band of former bassist Manny Morales, SANCTIFIED SISTER guitarist Lael Conlon, drummer Ian Baird and FEARFUL SYMMETRY keyboard player David Gilbreath.
Ex-DELIVERANCE guitarist Glenn Rogers would announce the formation of MONTH OF SUNDAYS, a union with erstwhile REVEREND guitarist Brian Korban. A brand new DELIVERANCE album ‘The Sad Veil Of Tears’ was expected in 2002. A further DELIVERANCE related project came in 2005 with the announcement that erstwhile guitarist Mike Phillips had forged FASEDOWN, a Metalcore alliance with vocalist Devin Shaeffer, second guitarist Jesse Gibson, ex-THE ! 2007-07-03 17:50:13.000 ! 0 ͸ÛÍ!
