Hardcore Rap Metal band laden down with loud guitars, muscles and heavyweight record sales to match, STUCK MOJO would remain the Century Media label's biggest selling act in America until 2004. The Kennesaw, Georgia based band was first assembled in 1989 by guitarist Rich Ward, bassist Dwayne Fowler and drummer Richard Farmer, later inducting singer Andrew Freund. The first line-up change was initiated by Ward, holding down a day job in pizza delivery, noticed one of the pizzeria's chefs, Bonz, liked to play loud Hip Hop in the workplace. The pair soon saw a future blending the Rap vocals and Metal guitars and Freund was duly replaced by Bonz. STUCK MOJO rapidly fostered a fervent following across Georgia and over the next two years also took their music onto stages in Chicago, Tampa, Charlotte, Columbia, and Tallahassee. A three song demo was recorded with producer Jozef Nuyens in Nashville, Tennessee, resulting in a deal brokered with Borivoj Krgin at Century Media Records.
STUCK MOJO, with Brent Payne handling drums, arrived in spectacular fashion during March 1995 touting the Jozef Nuyens produced 'Snappin' Necks' debut. Reaction to the band's crossover style prompted both tours of Europe and a ten week stint opening for MACHINE HEAD in North America. To maintain momentum the 'Violated' EP emerged in Europe during early 1996, this session featuring the new rhythm section of bassist Corey Lowery and drummer Bud Fontseré. That April the band embarked upon the 'Crossover 2000' tour, hitting Germany , France , Italy , England , Austria , Denmark , Poland , Belgium and the Czech Republic, closing proceedings with an appearance at the Dutch 'Dynamo' festival. Their status on the touring circuit was recognised when MTV Europe gave STUCK MOJO their "Best live band" award.
The second full-length album, 'Pigwalk' released in 1996, produced by DEVIN TOWNSEND and Daniel Bergstrand, pushed record sales higher still. Promotion work on the road during 1997 witnessed supports to TESTAMENT, LIFE OF AGONY and TYPE O NEGATIVE plus a second European road campaign.
STUCK MOJO's breakthrough would come with the March 1998 'Rising' album. Produced by erstwhile SABBAT guitarist Andy Sneap 'Rising' would rack up an impressive 50'000 sales in North America. STUCK MOJO's wrestling affiliations were proudly displayed on the album cover, which sported the World Championship Wrestling's US Heavyweight Championship belt buckle. A promotional video for the title track featured cameos from wrestling stars The Flock, "Diamond" Dallas Page and Raven. 'Rising' was promoted by European shows in June 1998, which included a return invite to the 'Dynamo' festival, prior to North American concerts aligned with PANTERA then Autumn gigging flanking SEVENDUST and CLUTCH.
The band's 1999 six-month American tour marothon found BELT FED bassist Dan Dryden, a Minnesota native, substituting for Corey Lowery, who had opted out to join LIFE OF AGONY. The ex-bassist subsequently founded STEREOMUD for two albums, uniting with the CRUMBSUCKERS, PRO-PAIN and LIFE OF AGONY credited drummer Dan Richardson and ex-LIFE OF AGONY guitarist Joey Z.
Despite STUCK MOJO's upward progress and positive reaction to latter albums such as September 1999's 'HVY 1', a concert recording taped at the Masquerade in Atlanta, and 2000's 'Declaration Of A Headhunter', rumours, eventually confirmed, spread in 2001 of the band's break up in spite of recently adding new guitarist Ryan Mallom to the line-up. The swansong would be marked by the 'Violate This' release in August, a collection of demos and rarities included amongst which were cover versions of MÖTLEY CRÜE's 'Shout At The Devil' and IRON MAIDEN's 'Wrathchild', the latter featuring DEVIN TOWNSEND on guest vocals.
