XYSTUS, a Hertogenbosch based Power Metal band initially formed as a high school project in 1997, include erstwhile AMETHYST drummer Ivo van Dijk. The initial formation featured guitarists Ivo van Dijk and Bas Dolmens, keyboard player Pim van Drunen and drummer Matthijs Suijck. In the summer of 1998 Ivo van Dijk switched roles to become to drummer and Tim van Dijk, his brother, picked up bass guitar. Demos arrived in 1999 and 2000 with a third effort, 'Evolution', arriving in 2001.
During early 2004 XYSTUS parted ways with keyboard player Desmond Robberegt but would announce the addition of second guitarist Bob Wijtsma to the group's ranks. The band signed with The Electric Co. for the release of their debut album 'Receiving Tomorrow', produced by Rob van Boeckel at New Road studios in Wijchen. In early 2005 Ivo van Dijk would session for live gigs with SILENT EDGE. The band introduced keyboard player Joris van de Kerkhof for live shows, but he would exit in March.
Gigs in Holland during January of 2006 would see support to Norway's TRAIL OF TEARS.
