SPELLBLAST vocalist Jonathan has a prior history with acts such as EBONY GATES, MONA BONE JACKON, ANTHIPICA, VIGDIS and MOTHER IN LAW. He also operates with DRIVHELL, DREAM TEAM and WASTELAND. Rhythm guitarist Claudio is ex-LATERAL GROUND and REVERBS. Bassist Xavier is also active with DARK ROSE whilst keyboard player Ivan, ex-ETNIA and DARK EDEN, is also a member of FATEFUL DESTINY.
The band was founded in March of 1999 by singer Kaste and keyboard player Dibo, soon enlisting guitarists Luca and Maurizio, bassist Willy and drummer Cizu. Within weeks of formation both Cizu and Maurizio exited, being replaced by drummer Beppe guitarist Ivan in April. However, Willy then opted out in May, superseded by Mauro. In this formation SPELLBLAST first performed live on 12th June 1999 at the Lazzaretto in Bergamo.
Further line-up changes in May of 2000 saw the departure of Beppe and Mauro but the recruitment of Mattia on drums in August. Second guitarist Manuel enrolled in December 2001, but left in February the following year. That Spring SPELLBLAST inducted guitarist Marco, drummer Cizu and bass player Xavier but by May both Cizu and Marco had gone. Regrouping, the band drafted drummer Diego, who was shortly afterward replaced by Alberto. The demo 'Ray Of Time' was recorded in January of 2004.
