Trad Heavy Metal band THE CHAINSAW was forged in 1997 as a quintet comprising the ADVENTH and CRUSADERS credited lead vocalist Maciej Koczorowski, guitarists Jarek Gajczuk-Zawadzki and Marcin Kuras, bassist Pawel Ostropolski and drummer Marcin Gajczuk-Zawadzki. That year the group issued the demo tapes 'First Steps' and 'Second Steps'. The following year saw Kuras replaced by Sebastian Ostrowski as the band released the live album 'Live At Kuznia', featuring covers of DEEP PURPLE's 'Black Night' and 'Highway Star', METALLICA's 'Seek And Destroy', BLACK SABBATH's 'Paranoid' as well as the KISS classic 'Deuce'.
The new line up proved stable, lasting until 2000 when Ostrowski was in turn was superseded by erstwhile AMARANTH guitarist Arek Rygielski. THE CHAINSAW would then revamp its rhythm section, drawing in Daniel "Demon" Karwicki on bass and the former THE PUNISHMENT DUE and THE THRILL drummer Sebastian Gorski.
The band issued the 'Electric Wizards' album in 2002. This self financed effort would be picked up for European license by the German Shark label the following year. In June of 2003 THE CHAINSAW was joined by Gorski's erstwhile THE PUNISHMENT DUE and THE THRILL bass colleague Marek Jerchewicz. The band announced a new album, 'The Journey Into The Heart Of Darkness', in late 2004. Guesting on these recordings would be TURBO and CETI vocalist Grzegorz Kupczyk, CETI singer Marihuana, FAUST and NAUMACHIA's Soyak and the LOCH NESS credited Rafal Chmiel.
The band undertook the 'Empire Invasion' March 2006 tour of Poland allied with HERMH, VESANIA and DIES IRAE. In November the group supported PAUL DIANNO on Polish dates.
