The roles of characters were performed by lead singers of famous Russian rock-bands, with Artur Berkut (Aria), Kirill Nemolyaev (Boney NeM), Lexx (Master), Andrey Lobashev (Arida Vortex), Dmitry Borisenkov (Black Obelisk) among them. The role of main hero was performed by Epidemia’s singer Max Samosvat. Another well-known personality who made his appearance in the opera is guitar player Vyacheslav Molchanov. The album was produced by Aria's leader Vladimir Kholstinin who contributed to the album by performing several instrumental parts.
Yes this is Elf Metal! Seriously this is Epidemia's second Power Metal opus on CD. This album, however, is a Metal opera. Much in the same vein as Avantasia this album also features several Guest vocalists from other bands to fill out the cast. Guest include vocalist from Aria, Arida Vortex, Boney Nem, Black Obelisk and Master.
While their debut release was quote good, this album blows it away. This is an awesome record all around. This is a record any power metal fan should hear. The guitar work is fantastic and every song is riddled with harmonized melodies and happy choruses.
As with any good concept album the songs help progress the mood and the story. This album does that very well. The different characters are easily distinguished and fit in the story very well. My favorite stand alone track is Elf's Blood. This is the most diverse and longest track on the album. But this is an album you need to listen to start to finish and let yourself get caught up in the story or Elves and Dragons. It would be hard to go into a song by song breakdown since the compositions are very complex and each song has so much to offer. I will say that every song sounds different and this is not an album you will ever get bored of listening to.
Yes this is "cheesy" power metal. But, Epidemia would be on the heavier side of most power metal bands and the guitar work is fantastic. Any fans of Blind Guardian or Avantasia should definitely check this out.
