CIA Commander 1.0
Release: CIA Commander 1.0
- Datum: 16.01.2003
CIA Commander is IMO one of the most useful emergency utilities around.
This is a product from Datapol.de that I found after doing a lot of searching for a utility that would boot a damaged NTFS os like Winsows 2000 or XP and work as a file manager to repair a damaged system. My registry hives kept getting corrupted, and I was tired of having to go into Recovery Console and type out long strings of commands each time.
I tried out the graphical file manager Winternals ERD Commander recovery CD, but because it uses Windows System files (running off the hard drive) to run, it would not even start on a badly damaged system. Even when working, ERD Commander will not let you delete or replace registry hives and other Windows system files. So ERD Commander was practically useless for me.
CIA Commander boots the computer from floppy, and is the only NTFS graphical file manager I could find anywhere that actually worked for me. It reminds me of X-Tree, although not nearly as powerful. (NTFSDOS will accomplish the same thing as CIA Commander, but it is command line based instead of graphical)
Another thing CIA Commander will do is boot the computer, bypassing the password, so you can get into any NTFS computer.
Everyone who is not versed at NTSFDOS command line should have this for their emergency kit. Sooner or later you will need it.
As I forgot how to make the ed2k links work on this forum, and I must leave in a minute, for now I will refer you to my post on Sharereactor for the link. CIA Commander is IMO one of the most useful emergency utilities around.
