SubTractor is an analog type polyphonic synthesizer based on subtractive synthesis and is available since the first version of Reason. This synthesizer may seem a general subtractive synthesizer with 2 oscillators, usual filters, envelope generators, LFO's etc., but it's not so usual as it seems. There are several features that make the SubTractor an unique and versatile sounding synthesizer.

A unique feature of the SubTractor synthesizer is the oscillator phase offset. By using this feature you can create complex waveforms by subtracting or multiplying a waveform with a phase offset copy of it self. Each oscillator has it's own phase offset setting and selector for waveform subtraction, multiplication or no phase offset modulation. Using phase offset modulation can create very rich and varied timbres, especially when used along with LFO or Envelopes to modulate the phase offset.

Another unique feature is the combination of a multimode filter and a second low-pass filter. This combination can be used to create some very powerful and analog sounding formants, basses, lead or effects.

Another great thing found in SubTractor is the fact that the oscillators can be Ring Modulated and/or Frequency Modulated making it very easy to create digital like sounds.
